Inhalt

The entrepreneurial process does not take place in isolation and is more contextdependent than considered in literature so far. Thus, this doctoral thesis explores facets of entrepreneurial action shaped by socio-economic context as a system of contextual factors and inherent actors with whom the entrepreneur interacts. The purpose of this dissertation is to advance the contextualisation of entrepreneurship theory by shedding light on distinct types of entrepreneurs and their respective contexts. Therefore, three independent qualitative studies, presented in three manuscripts address different aspects of the entrepreneurial process. Manuscript 1 examines social entrepreneurs in the early stages of their dual mission pursuit, specifically focusing on the identification and development of opportunities in social entrepreneurship. Manuscript 2 explores students and their emotions in their entrepreneurial self-regulated learning experiences within an action-based entrepreneurship education (EE) task setting. Manuscript 3 investigates the earlystage entrepreneurial development of refugee entrepreneurs within an entrepreneurial support organisation (ESO), specifically a business incubator, and its impact on their embeddedness in the host country. Overall, this dissertation contributes to the literature on entrepreneurial cognition, education, and support. It views entrepreneurship from a systems perspective by considering social, cultural, and economic influences of the socio-economic context. Manuscript 1 enhances our understanding of the cognitive processes of social entrepreneurs addressing contextual social issues and identifying opportunities. Manuscript 2 indicates the role of socio-emotional team dynamics for the development of entrepreneurial cognitive characteristics within an action-based EE environment. Manuscript 3 extends ESO literature by identifying key themes of the business incubation process in refugee entrepreneurship context and incorporating the dimensions of (mixed) embeddedness theory. This dissertation emphasises the role of social dynamics, emotions, and stakeholder collaboration in entrepreneurial action across various contexts, offering practical implications for practitioners and educators.
